DIY Wednesday: Sweater Clips

Last weekend, when visiting my grandparents for the holidays, my grandmother pulled out all of her jewelry for me to look through. It was amazing. What was better was that she let me bring some of it home with me. So far I have made two necklaces, two pins, and this sweater clip with the broken pieces.

I was inspired by some photos of Zooey Deschanel for this project. I got the idea when I was wearing my cardigan around my shoulders and it kept falling off. First, you need to find a pair of vintage earrings, clip on are best for this project, but the screw on earrings would work as well. Next you will need some hooks and some chain. Simply attach the hook with the chain to a hole that is already on the earring. Attach to both sides at the same place on the earring. Now you are done.

To wear you sweater clip, simply clip the earrings to both sides of your cardigan or sweater. Enjoy and happy DIY'ing!

Snow-Snow-Snow......

So it has officially been snowing all day...and I am loving it. This was our first white Christmas since I can remember, and the snow just keeps on coming. I took these photos this morning, and have been sitting around in my new fleece pants and sweatshirt ever since, and it is still snowing. I have been enjoying watching some videos that I received for Christmas, including Mad Men seasons. As well as browsing my new cook books. This has been a great day to relax and stay cozy. I love holiday weekends!

P.S. I am sporting my new hat as well as my new oxfords that I got for Christmas! The necklace was a gift as well.

Merry Christmas

I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas yesterday, I just thought that I would share a few photos from my day. Enjoy the rest of your holiday! Merry Christmas!

The Creative Juices are Flowing.....

Yes! All of my projects for the semester are finished! As you can see, I finally finished my cape! I am so thrilled to have it done, not only because I wanted to be finished, but because I could not wait to wear it. I intended to take some outfit photos, but I am going to wait till I finish up another project I have in store. So it will make it's debut later on in the week. This was my first big sewing project, garment wise, and it went swimmingly. As a result, I have been bitten with the sewing bug. I literally want to make everything I see. I have so many ideas running through my head! I can not wait to get to work on some of them! I will have much more time now that the semester is coming to a close! Meaning more time for outfit posts as well!

On a side note...I did not forget about this week's DIY...it is still in the final stages of completion. Ah finals week....

DIY Wednesday: No Knit Scarf

Hello everyone! For today's DIY, in honour of the first day of December, I made a no-knit circle scarf. Once I found the tutorial online, I knew I had to make one. I have been searching for a circle scarf online for weeks, and this one looked super easy. I had alot of fun doing it as well. I wrapped mine around the edge of a coffee table for the thicker scarf, and then used the chair method suggested for the thinner scarves. I am keeping the thicker one for myself, and giving the others in the photo as Christmas gifts. The only thing that I changed from the tutorial was that I used felt instead of leather to wrap the scarf, because I thought that it would be warmer. It was such and easy project and it is soooo cozy!

I am especially loving this scarf today because it is snowing. As I type this I feel as if I am living in a snowglobe. There could not be a better way to kick off the month of December. I am now off to work on some homework, finals start next week, and I am super busy. Once I get past the seventh things will really start to slow down, and I can finally get around to decorating, baking cookies, and Christmas shopping. I can't wait!

Happy DIY'ing!!!!

DIY Wednesday(on Saturday): Book Box

So this DIY is coming a little bit late....seeing as how I have been enjoying my Thanksgiving! I hope that everyone has enjoyed your holiday weekend as well! I really enjoyed my time with my family. I also enjoyed Black Friday shopping....I never even made it to bed Thursday night, but I did get some great deals. I have also been working on a ton of DIY's this week! I might save one of my favorites for next weeks DIY.

This week I made a book treasure box. I got the idea and the tutorial over at WishWishWish. It was really easy to make, however it was quite time consuming, and quite messy as well. I can't wait to use it to store my treasures in. I think that I am also going to make a few for Christmas gifts as well.

Well I hope that everyone enjoys the rest of your holiday weekend! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Cupcake Date

One of the great things about Thanksgiving is seeing those people that you don't get to see the rest of the year. I am officially on break now from school, and I am fulling taking advantage of it. Today, I met a friend for lunch at a local deli market, where we purchased our cupcakes. We then took our cupcakes to the park where we took pictures in the gazebo. It was such a nice day today we just couldn't resist! I wore a simple outfit of jeans, blouse, and cardigan. An easy outfit for a day of antique shopping!

After that, we headed to the antique district for some shopping. I am working my own booth at a local craft fair next Monday, and I had to pick up a couple of things. I bought a few new books, some for Christmas presents, and some for a book box which I am hoping to make for the show.

I am really excited about the show, I am currently working on some scarves and
bowties and such. I am hoping to get as much done as possible before we head out for various Thanksgiving meals later this week. I will hopefully post some photos of what I am making for the show. I am hoping that it all works out, especially the book box!

DIY Wednesday: It's A Gamble

For today's DIY Wednesday I decided to make a dice ring. I am currently obsessing over rings and have been using anything and everything to make rings. This is one of my most recent creations and one of my favorites. It adds a little quirkiness to my day, and my outfit. It was super easy to make. All you need is a ring base, and a package of dice, and your done.

I had a different DIY planned for today, but I have been so busy with homework and projects that I simply did not have time. For my patternmaking and production class, I have to make an outfit from start to finish. I am working on a cape outfit for the holidays. I am hoping to make a ring to go with the outfit as well. Meanwhile, I also have to put together a scrapbook of identifications for another class. I have been going through my personal magazine archives for weeks for this one. It is more difficult than one might think to spot a topstitch or a unitard in a magazine.

However, one more class day and I am officially on Thanksgiving break. I can not wait for the holiday season to get under way.

Happy DIY'ing!!!

DIY Wednesday!

Welcome to the first official installment of DIY Wednesdays! I am hoping to make this into a weekly post, to be known as DIY Wednesdays! This week I decided to make something like the Louis Vuitton Lace Glasses. I was working on project for class when I saw them in a story. I thought that they looked interesting, and I wanted to give them a try for fun. I thought that they would be hard to see through, but you can actually see through them. The first picture is my take on the glasses, and pictured below are the actual glasses. All I did was pop out the lenses of a pair of prescription glasses, and then glue in lace. The only part that was a real problem was the lace the sticks out over the edge, but I am working on a way to fix that. All in all, I spent only one dollar on the glasses, and one dollar and fifty cents on the lace...bringing me to a total of two fifty for a fun accessory. Now I don't know where I would wear them, but they are definitely a fun thing to have in your closet.

The Pumpkin House

Last night me and some friends took a drive to see the Pumpkin House. This man carves over three thousand pumpkins and decorates his entire house and yard with them. There is even a wall of pumpkin instruments that is synchronized with music, including a pumpkin choir. It is actually pretty amazing, and it has also received national media attention. The house has been featured on both Ellen and The Today Show. It is a tradition that we go every year.

We mostly just looked around for a while. There were also readings of The Raven and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. We then grabbed some pizza after and headed home. It was the perfect start to my Halloween weekend.

Now i'm off to put the finishing touches on my Halloween costume for tonight. Pictures soon to follow! Happy Halloween!

Camping in the Cold

I have spent the past few days camping. It was absolutely amazing...but quite cold. I spent a good portion of the weekend in multiple layers of flannel sitting around the fire. I'm not complaining though, as it was one of the most relaxing weekends that I have had in a long time. The only downside was the complete lack of internet access.

I went on a hike, which is where most of these pictures are from. We decided to go off the beaten path a bit, and the unexplored beauty made it truly worth it. I stumbled upon a bit of coal, and almost stumbled upon a few creatures as well (literally).

I especially loved looking at the fall leaves, and curling up under a quilt with a good read. It was a fantastic weekend.

Carpet Bag:DIY

I made a new bag today that I think is perfect for fall. It is made from a place mat. I used this tutorial. The tutorial was very helpful. I only made a few changes, for instance, I made a loop to put the chain through, as opposed to threading it on. I am quite pleased with the way this turned out and I can't wait to carry it for fall.

I am thinking of making this a weekly installment....such as DIY Fridays. What a perfect way to kick off a weekend! What do you think? Any suggestions?

Take Flight

I am absolutely in love with my new necklace. I picked it up at the Pumpkin Festival, and it is made of vintage findings. The base is from a watch, and the plane is from a toy plane. There are also parts from the watch on it. It reminds me of North by Northwest with the plane on it. I can't wait to wear it again...and it is definitely going to a wardrobe staple. Along with the hair comb that I also bought, which I will probably wear tomorrow.

It was actually pretty warm here today, so I got to pull out my shorts and flip flops one last time. The weather was perfect today.

My outfit photos didn't turn out too well today. I did however put one up because I loved the effect of the sun on the photo. I was wearing khaki shorts, black shirt, and a brown and black specked cardigan...along with my necklace and a headband.

The Great Pumpkin

I went to a Pumpkin Festival today. It was so much fun. It is a family tradition, and we go every year. They have great craft booths, one of which was composed of entirely vintage jewelry. However, they also have amazing food booths. I have enough pumpkin food to last for months...including whoopie pies and doughnuts. I also had pumpkin ice cream, but that didn't quite make it home.

There was also a contest for the largest pumpkins, which were huge.

I can't wait to wear my new jewelry, which is fantastic. It also inspired me to work on some more jewelry and such very soon. I can't wait to get started on some of it!

Cozy Weekend

This weekend can be described in one word, cozy. After my incredibly busy week last week, I just wanted to take it easy. Then, the temperatures suddenly plummeted here in Ohio. Which together called for a weekend of flannel, baking, and old movies. I spent a good majority of the weekend in my flannel lounge pants watching movies. I also spent some time doing some baking this weekend. The only real thing I did this weekend was attend a concert. A truly relaxing weekend.

I whipped up quite a few things this weekend, however, my two favorites were the Honey Lavender Cupcakes and the Mint Chocolate Cupcakes. Let me say, if you have never baked with lavender, it is quite a treat.

All in all it was fantastic weekend a great end to my busy week. Now it's back to reality as I'm writing today from the university library. Everything should get back to normal around here now, with some outfit posts to come shortly, and some great DIYs later in the week. Have a great week.

A Night At The Theatre

Last night I went to a concert as a part of the artist's series at my university. I went with a few friends and we had a really good time.

The theatre was beautiful, and actually pretty fascinating. I have lived close to it for years, and while I knew that it had a fascinating history, I had no idea of it's historical significance. It was really quite fascinating. Apparently, in 1928, this was one of the biggest theaters in the country, second only to the Roxy. Years ago,it was used for vaudeville. It is really fascinating, it has tunnels that go underneath, as well as many of the original fixtures and designs. I would love to take a tour of the building! The detail is so spectacular. I took tons of pictures, but most of them were too dark to see anything. I also took many outfit photos all over the theatre, but those did not really turn out either.

All in all it was a fantastic night in a spectacular location.

I'm Through Accepting Limits......

.....cause someone says they're so. When thinking about this outfit, I realized that it was pushing the boundaries on what looks 'normal' to those around me. I got one or two comments on my white dress, after Labor Day. Also, I got quite a few flower girl/bridesmaids comments on my headband. However, I was quite pleased with the outfit, and I think that I would wear it again. I was pleased with the outfit and it was quite fun to wear. How do you feel about wearing outfits that are not quite viewed as 'normal'? Where do you think the line is between dressing for you and dressing for others?

Floral Headband: DIY

For a while now I have been wanting a floral headband...but never could find the right one. Then, yesterday, my mom brought me a box of flowers that she bought at a garage sale for two dollars. The first thing that popped into my mind was to make a floral headband. It was actually quite easy. Also, I was rather impressed with the results. It is such a fun accessory.

All you need is a headband(you can use a thick one, but I prefer thin) and bunches of flowers. I did one with small flowers and one with big. I only used about three bunches of the bigger flowers, but almost double that with the smaller ones.

When everything is ready, simply wrap the wire stem around the headband. Starting at the top and working your way down on both sides. As a tip, make sure that the ends are on top of the headband and tucked under the flowers, otherwise wearing the headband will become quite painful. Using glue is optional, I did not find it necessary.

Observe your work and enjoy the finished product!

A Party On My Head

Happy Labor Day! I hope that everyone is enjoying your day off! I have not so much been busy...but focused. I have been studying for a test, but more importantly, I have been working on a paper. It has become increasingly apparent that my local library does not carry many books on designers, certainly not the eight resources that I am supposed to have. Since I could not find any books locally, I ordered them online. Well they are not here yet, and the paper is due Wednesday. Needless to say, I am in a frenzy. So I have been scrambling to come up with resources, which has left little time for looking lovely! However, I did get to wear my new hair accessory which I picked up from a street vendor in Pittsburgh. It has been said that there is "a party on my head" when I wear this. It really brightens up a plain outfit. I love it with an LBD!

For the next two days I am going to be scouring every library in the county and writing up a storm. So I am going to sit down, enjoy my scones (YUM!), and write!

On a side note...I am loving this cooler weather. I can't wait 'till fall!!!
