DIY: Wrapping Paper

I DIY'd some wrapping paper a few days ago and I could not be happier with the results. I love how my presents turned out and I hope that my friends do too.
For this DIY you will need a roll of wrapping paper, paint, and whatever you want to stamp on the paper. I made a stamp. You will also need anything you want to finish your present off with...I used bakers twine and tags that I printed from a free download. After you get together everything that you will need you are really set to go. The only hard part of this is finding a place to unroll the paper. All you need to do it figure out your pattern and just go for it. It is really so much fun, and totally worth it. Your friends and family will love the extra special touch that went into their gifts. It is so easy and fun that you will love it too.

Winter Wears

I feel like I haven't been able to update this space in so long. Life has been crazy busy lately. The good news is that it is officially Christmas break. Finals last week, and some this week, really kicked my but. I have done nothing but study. Also, I quit my day job, and this past weekend was my last day. Things are finally starting to slow down around here and I can finally enjoy the holiday season and get everything ready. Last night and this morning I did plenty of baking and wrapping presents for a party that I am going to tonight. I also did a tiny bit of crafting. I had a friend over for lunch today and just hung out and did a little bit of baking, and a lot of eating and Christmas movie watching.
This outfit is actually from about a week ago. With finals starting the next day I didn't really have time to post until now. It was much colder on this day than it is now, and how pretty is that fog. Today it is about 15 degrees warmer which feels so strange in December, but snow is in the forecast for later this week. I feel like I can finally start wearing some of my 'winter fabrics'. Not that I can't wear these other times of the year, but something about a knit and a brocade just feel so right in December, I feel the same way about velvet and plaid. The sweater has some metallic knit into it which makes it feel just that more festive. I am loving this outfit, I have actually worn it again since then. Happy Thanksgiving!

I found this video earlier today and I just couldn't help but share it. It is footage from the Macy's parade in 1939. I just wanted to share it and to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! I am sitting here with the smell of turkey filling my living room. I am headed to bed now, but I can't wait to get up in the morning, watch the parade, and eat lots of delicious food. Happy Thanksgiving!

Staying Warm

The cold has officially descended upon us. Walking to class today was one of the most miserable walks I have ever taken. My feet and hands were numb by the time I reached my class. In an effort to stay warm, I have parked myself on my sofa with a blanket and my laptop. Fuzzy socks are also a must. I was wandering the interwebs when I happened upon these photos. There are so precious. They are photos of the real Christopher Robin and of course the inspiration for Pooh and all of the other beloved characters. These books and characters were such a treasure in my childhood and stumbling upon these photos made me so happy.
Speaking of things that make me happy...I found these photos on this site I just discovered called Retronaut. You can find these photos as well as so many more here. Don't forget to stay safe and be warm guys!

Flapper Festivities

On Friday night, I headed out for my friends birthday party, which was 1920's themed. I had such a good time, and I loved dressing up. I have always wanted to go to a 1920's themed party so I was super pumped when she told me about it. I also had so much fun working on my costume. I made the entire thing except my shoes. I also made a couple of other peoples headpieces. I was waiting to post these photos until my friend posted them online, she is a great photographer and I knew her photos would be awesome. I wish I had taken more outfit photos, but you can get a glimpse of my outfit in the photo from behind.

Lazy Days

Yesterday was such a super lazy day. I was planning on running some errands, but my car was having some issues being looked at, so I got to spend my morning loafing around the house. I read some of the new books I ordered, played with my new star lamp, and snuggled up with some tea and a blanket. I also did a bit of sketching for class. It was such a relaxing morning. Later that evening, I went to a 1920's themed party for one of my friends, which I will post more about later.

Neon Puppies

This is one of my favorite new dresses! I love it so much! It simply makes me smile. When you combine that with my new neon bag it really creates a happy outfit. I picked up this bag during the huge Modcloth sale a few weeks ago. I wore this about a week ago, right before I went into this crazy week or so of crazy amounts of homework. I just finished up all of my tests for this week and I am so relieved. I have also been pretty busy working on an excited new project, which I can't wait to share with you!

Apple Festival

Earlier today my family and I made a trip to Jackson for the annual apple festival. I had such a good time and I ate copious amounts of food. Including these amazing apple dumplings. I also had butterfly potatoes and a deep fried pickle...basically all of the amazing foods that can only come from a food truck. I also got to look at some great crafts and antiques. I may have gotten a bit carsick on the way but it was totally worth it for some great time with family.
Oh yeah....Happy First Day of Fall! I couldn't think of a better way to start the season.

Discovering Old Paths

Yesterday, after a usual day of class and lunch with friends, I snapped these photos before I went out shopping. I decided to explore a little bit in the woods behind my house. It has been forever since I ventured out past the little clearing that I love. I had actually forgotten about this path. I can't wait to get on appropriate shoes and go exploring. Speaking of shoes, these are my new favorites. These are one of my favorite DIY's of all time, besides my dresses of course. I paired the shoes with a basic skirt and a button up. A super easy outfit for a day in class.

First Day Of The Semester

So this post is a little behind, but this is my outfit from my first day of class. It was technically over a week ago, but I forgot that they were on my camera. It was a good day of classes, and I loved the outfit. It is always nice getting back into a routine, it just takes awhile to get back into the routine. On the first day, I only had one class, which was my art class. I wore this dress that I just recently picked up, I have always wanted a red dress, and now I finally have one. I also wore these shoes that my aunt gave me, and the brooch that I picked up in New York.

Wandering The Woods

These are a few of the photos from the last minute photo shoot that I did. I have so much fun doing these. I love that I have awesome friends who help me out, especially when they are subjected to hundreds of photos. I really enjoyed doing it and I hope that you enjoy seeing them. There are even more posted on my flickr.

Oh The Things We Do For A Good Photo

After working on my last photo shoot for my internship, I have been obsessed with getting to do it again. Today I finally did. It was so much fun! I just love it! We shot the entire thing in some woods behind my friends house, there was even a little creek. When I was making my way barefoot down the creek, I had to laugh. It is amazing the things we will do for a photo. I know that so many of us have had interesting stories about trying to take outfit photos, or about taking photos of anything in public. In my opinion though it is all worth it. I just love doing these impromptu shoots. Hopefully there are many more to come. I can't wait to upload some of the photos. Hopefully I can get them up tomorrow before I go to work.

Some Time Off...Finally

I finally had a couple of days off this week. I have been working some crazy hours these past few weeks. I have been working on a few DIY projects for back to school, as well as running some errands and meeting with friends. One of my most recent projects us this ring. This morning I went to lunch with a friend, and then walked to campus to buy my books, my wallet and I are not too happy with that second part. It has been so nice to relax today and finally get some stuff done.

Sightseeing and Treats

On my second full day in New York, we did some more sightseeing. One of the first things we did that day was to do a little shopping. We went to Bookmarc, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Magnolia Bakery. Next, we took our treats to Central Park, where we rented a boat. We rowed our boat out and ate our cupcakes and banana pudding under a tree in the park. It was so amazing. After that, we ventured down to the MoMA, where it was free on Friday evenings. I loved seeing all of the amazing works of art, especially Starry Night, as well as the many Andy Warhol works. After the museum, we went back to get cleaned up for dinner in Little Italy, where I tasted the best pizza that I have had the pleasure of eating.
For a day of sightseeing I chose to wear my new skirt and a button up. I also wore some new sneakers which I thought were already broken in, though the current status of my ankles say otherwise.

I Woke Up In The City That Doesn't Sleep

This past weekend I took the train up to New York to visit a friend. I had so much fun and it was great to see so many of the different sights. I have always wanted to take a trip on a train, so on Wednesday, I got on the train and was on my way. I spent most of the day on the train. On Thursday, we started sightseeing. We began our day with Bryant Park and the garment district. Next we headed to Grand Central where we sought out the whisper room (which is awesome by the way). After that, we headed to the MET, for an afternoon of taking in art. I loved seeing the Schiaparelli and Prada collection. I also enjoyed seeing works from some of my favorite artists, seeing many in person for the first time. That evening we headed to Williamsburg for dinner and sightseeing. It was such a great day.

Beach Photos

This was one of the outfits that I wore at the beach. I am so behind on my photos since I never got to post them when on vacation. I think that this is the last set from my vacation, we will see though. I wore this out for dinner and sightseeing one night. It is rare that I will wear a dress with such thin straps. Actually, this is probably the only one I own. However, since I was at the beach I made an exception, plus it was much too warm for the cardigan I packed. I paired the dress with some sandals, basic jewelry, and a sunhat. I did get to wear my new shell ring, which I am obsessed with.
